Abstract: Lie-type symmetries and conservation laws are coordinate-invariant objects that provide information about the intrinsic geometrical structure of linear and nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations (ODEs, PDEs). Local symmetries and conservation laws can be systematically derived and are useful in multiple aspects related to modeling and solution of problems given by nonlinear differential equations. In a similar manner, additional approximate symmetries and conservation laws can be constructed for systems involving small parameter(s). In this talk, basic theory related to approximate symmetries and conservation laws, construction methods, and examples with symbolic computations will be presented.
